SALT RIVER FLOAT

September 18, 2021
On Saturday, September 18th, we floated down the Salt River.  I have always wanted to do this and we finally got in on our calendar.   When we put in there were tons of other people also floating the river in inner tubes.  It was kinda like bumper boats.  Quite fun!   But eventually, they started to leave the river and the remaining 2 hours (of a 6 hour float) it was just us.  It was so quiet and peaceful out there all we could hear were the birds singing.

The scenery was beautiful, as you can see in the pictures.

Shortly after most of the people left the river, we finally came upon a herd of wild horses as they were grazing in the river.  It was amazing how close we could get to them, and they had no fear of us.  Such majestic creatures.

Then, right at the end of the trip, we were about ¼ mile away from our take out place (we could even see it), a major wind storm blew in and it was impossible to paddle against it.  So we let the wind blow us against a patch of cat tail reeds and we hung on for our dear lives.

I would highly recommend this to anyone that has never floated down this river.  There is a company that will rent out inner tubes and drive you up to the put in place.   Or, if you have your own kayak or inflatable raft (as we did), just bring your own.
