We took the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
What a great time it was.
Be sure to watch the video above.
So this must be where Santa's reindeer spend their summer vacation.
Right: This rock is one of the oldest rocks in the Country aged at 1.7 Billion years old. It is called a Precambrian Metamorphic Rock.
Another interesting piece of trivia about this rock is this is the exact rock that the Sundance Kid jumped off of onto a train in the 1969 movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Animas River Gorge
Nope, we didn't take these bridges
Colorado Apens
Another fire leaves its scars
Mountains were spectacular
Yes. The river really IS that color. This comes from a toxic mine spillage from a few years ago
Right: Waterfall through a small opening.

Our first glimpse of Silverton
Time for Lunch: Shady Lady Restaurant
This fine gentleman and his 2 steeds took us for a tour around this beautiful town
Heading back out of town
That's the end of the ride.

On Tuesday, we took our off road vehicle on a Jeep Trail to the Animas River Fork Historic Ghost Town.
This location is on the Alpine Loop Trail which is an over 70 mile Jeep trail north of Silverton, CO.
First site of Silverton from Hwy 550
Beautiful scenery all around
An old, abandoned mine.
Animas River
Awwww ... what a cute little Marmot!
When you gotta go, you gotta go.
Made it to our destination

On Tuesday evening, August 28th, we went to a Dinner Theater called Bar D Wranglers. We were too far back to take pictures or videos, so I have grabbed one of their songs from YouTube.
Enjoy! (Be sure you have your sound on)
Wow! Indoor plumbing.
Really Scott?
Snow? In August?
We lasted about 5 minutes at Cinnamon Pass ... it was so cold .... long enough to take a couple of pictures, then we went back down.
Nope, not our motorcycles.
Oh so cute!
Wednesday, August 29, 2018 Clear Lake
This was an awesome ride to Clear Lake, just a bit Northwest of Silverton.
The lake, is aptly named Clear Lake, because it is clear. We brought our fishing gear and had a great time fishing.
Another cute little Marmot.
An absolutely beautiful lake
Scott & I, and 1 other fisherman, were the only ones fishing this pristine lake.
Stunning Brook Trout
Made a tasty meal
Thursday, August 30, 2018
We took the day off from 4-wheeling and stayed back at the hotel to rest for the day.
Then in the late afternoon/early evening, we went on a Horseback Dinner Ride. Scott & I were the only guests on the ride.
3/4 of the way, we stopped for a cowboy chuckwagon dinner.
Steak, beans, potatoes, cooked (sweet) peaches, and bread. Mmmm, Mmmmm!
Then, our hosts proceeded to sing some cowboys songs for us.
The horses enjoyed their dinner break too.
On the way back to our hotel, we saw a massive herd of elk grazing in a field.
Then saw this sign. Hahahahaha!
Friday, August 31, 2018 We took a short ride North of Vallecito Reservoir.
Vallecito Reservoir
It is very sad to see a lake only 40% full. This was once a very large lake used for fishing and recreation. Now, due to a long drought, the lake is almost dried up.
Beautiful scenery everywhere we go.
The majority of this forest is dead due to drought, beetle infestation, and fires.
But ... life still florishes.
A beetle infested tree.
Taking a break at the turn-around point.
That is the end of our vacation. Drove back home the next day.
Hope you enjoyed!
