Silverton,  Colorado
This year's summer vacation was just outside of Silverton, CO with our Cabover Truck Camper.  We camped at a dry camping location about 5 miles from town and made a few side trips from our "home base".
Prior to arriving to Silverton, we spent the night parked at a church family member's summer home located just outside of Durango.  This is a view from their backyard.
The next day we drove to the camp spot and got everything set up.  We were lucky enough  to grab a large spot at the back of the camp area that allowed us to spread out and hold back other campers from camping right on top of us.
Here is what the rest of the camp site looks like:
A few pretty things around camp
South Mineral Creek
Relaxing at camp
A perfect camp dinner consisting of Pork Loins, Mashed Potatoes, & Green Beans
We made some new friends too.
These little guys were everywhere and would frequently engage Scott in a conversation.
This is what camping is all about.
The perfect marshmallow
Something wrong with this S'More.  Either the marshmallow is too big or the chocolate covered graham cracker is too small.
Our propane fire pit
The main thing we did while there was to drive up to Clear Lake, about a 5 mile drive up a crazy, narrow 4-wheel drive road that brings us directly to the lake.  Clear Lake is an alpine lake, above the tree line, at 12,000 feet in elevation.   We brought an inflatable kayak with us and was able to paddle out to the other side of the lake where other people cannot get to.  Scott learned how to fly fish for the first time, and caught his first Brown trout ever, on a fly rod.   Here are pictures going to the lake, pictures of the lake, and pictures of the beautiful trout we caught.
Magnificant view along the road up to Clear Lake
We saw lots of these cute little marmots
A view from the backside of the lake
There were
lots of tiny, little
bugs
In route to Colorado.

These buttes are in Northeastern Arizona between Monument Valley and the Colorado border.   The landscape there looks like another planet.  It has these buttes dispersed for as far as you can see as well as a vast desert of badlands.

If you haven't ever driven through NE Arizona, it is worth the trip.
These are the beautiful trout we caught in Clear Lake.   The orange belly beauties are Brook Trout.
Scott's first Brown Trout caught fly fishing.
Our catch from 3 days of fishing
On Tuesday, we drove into Ouray.   This trip was highly recommended by several people we know and we were told the road to Ouray will curl the hairs on the back of our necks.     For those of you that think this road is scary .............   you guys are sissies!    The road to Ouray was fun ... full of tight twisties and narrowed spots.

Here's a few screenshots of a few of the twisties.
Almost in town, there is a vista point for picture taking .... so that's what we did.
Ouray is an old mining town.
This was our favorite road sign
During the drive, we encountered a few tunnels
Shortly before arriving into Durango, we were blessed with a beautiful double rainbow.
(Photo enhanced to see the rainbow better)
Cooling off with a flavorful snowcone
We were camping right along side of South Mineral Creek,
so we decided to drive up the road to explore the creek some more.
This is actually Clear Creek (running out of Clear Lake) just before it meets up with South Mineral Creek.

(This road can be seen in one of the pictures displayed on the Clear Lake Road).
Catch of the Week

I caught this little guy out of South Mineral Creek.
(Threw him back to grow up some more.)
Fly Fishing South Mineral Creek

(The fish caught in this video was also released to grow up some more.)
That is the end of our vacation.

Hope you enjoyed!

While on shore, Scott noticed these beautiful flowers, so he stopped to sniff them AND take a few pictures.
Come to find out this is Colorado's State Flower called the Columbine Flower.   Aren't they beautiful?
This is one of those cute little Marmots.
He is not concerned about our presence at all.
